book of life...

Book of Life - painted sculpture by David Kracov (1945-  ) ...
Michael Douglas gave this as a gift to his father Kirk Douglas...

in our life cycles
we walk
sunshines and rains
cobblestones and
burning sands

but in the cosmic weave of things
wings
are always there in
the book of leaves for

rebirth and
renewal

Eastern Dream...

Eastern Dream (1904) Jean Lecomte Du Nouÿ (1842-1923)  Oil on canvas

when I sleep
in your world
I awaken
the spirit of
your eyes
your nearness
your breathing

I feel the wings
of your presence
bearing the joys of
our yesterdays

closer
and
closer

Humanity Slipping Away...

Humanity Slipping Away - Helen Savva - Limassol, Cyprus
I made this as a response to the tragic death of the 3-year-old Syrian refugee
– Aylan Kurdi –
who had drowned together with his 5-year-old brother Ghalib and mother Rehan
in the Mediterranean Sea while trying to escape Syria.

beyond my world

few knew Kurdish Kobane
a border city
balancing between
Turkey and Syria
until it was reduced to
80% rubble

but they know now

beyond my world

few understood
the relentless tides of desperate souls
seeking some kind of life
without fear

but they understand now

beyond my world

no one saw my three year old son
Aylan

until he slipped away from me

but they now see
in tragedy

he is
THEIR
son

Isn't he?

Imeritian Winter...

Imeritian Winter by Guram Dolenjashvili (1943- )

leafless
pinches of homely lights
snowy contortions
shadows

a wealth of shadows
by moonlight

a lone figure
patiently
trudges
the fine line

of yesterdays

Homeward Bound...

Homeward Bound c.1933-4 - Ernest Martin Hennings (1886-1956)

looking ahead
with downcast eyes

silent
but saying so much

homeward bound
but not home

together
but
alone

the waters are dark...

Temple of Isis at Philae, flood time 1910 By Diemer Michael Zeno (1867-1939)  Watercolor on paper

the waters are dark
but the sun shines

the sun shines on
the sacred breath
of a lady
who levelled
rich and poor
slaves and free

who nurtured the world of a child

and yet

she found time
for the beyond
the final call

and her final call
her magic
still
floats
in the sunshine

on dark waters

Philae Temple and the Nile...

Philae Temple and the Nile - CharlesThéodore Frère (1814-88)

some may see ruins
isolated
out of touch

but as I rest by the waters
and gaze
steadily

slowly
I see

the meaning of my soul
